Several new businesses are opening and commercial construction projects are coming to completion in the DeLand area. We thought we would give you a quick update.
The question around town is when will the new Courtyard Marriott open? We would like to have an answer for you, but unfortunately, we don’t. We can say that visibly, it looks like this beautiful new downtown hotel will open any day. Rumor has it that a soft opening will be in October, but it hasn’t been confirmed. We will keep you posted!
The building next to Chick-fil-A on South Woodland Blvd. that will contain the new Chipotle is built. As for the Chipotle, the interior design is well underway. There is no hard date set for opening, but by the end of the year is expected. Other tenants will also occupy the Chipotle building, but it is unclear which businesses that will be.
Although it has been completed for several months, DaVita Labs celebrated the grand opening of its 150,000 square foot facility near the DeLand Municipal Airport. DaVita Labs is a division of DaVita Inc., a Fortune 500 company whose operating divisions provide a variety of health care services to patient populations throughout the United States and abroad. The facility currently employs about 450 in DeLand.
YOLO Bar and Grilled Cheese has closed, but the craft cocktails and classy ambiance remain, under a new name. The latest downtown business venture of married couple Dan and Melissa Reed, who also own Cafe DaVinci and The Table, focuses on craft cocktails and small plates. Among the choices for small plates, which range in price from $5 to $10, are grilled artichoke, charred onion dip, and pork cracklings.
Who doesn’t love a great bakery? The founders of Kneading Sweets met each other at the North DeLand Publix only a year ago. Now, the two have fulfilled their dream by opening a new bakery at 115 E. Rich Ave., the former home of Sweet Spot. The owners take pride in creating unique, delicious, quality desserts for any and all occasions.
