DeLand is evolving into a cultural hub in many ways. One way is through the arts thanks to organizations such as the Athens Theater, Stetson University and the DeLand Museum of Art. We are blessed to have quality talent come through our small town. An example of that talent is the works of artist M.C. Escher, now on display at the DeLand Museum of Art.
M.C. Escher was a Dutch artist who lived from 1898 to 1972. He is best know for his mathematically inspired woodcuts, lithographs and mezzotints. His work explores mathematical objects and operations including impossible objects, explorations of infinity, reflection, symmetry, perspective, hyperbolic geometry and tessellations. In his early career, his was inspired by nature, and he studied insects, landscapes and plants.
Many of those works are on display at the DeLand Museum of Art, Downtown location at 100 N. Woodland Blvd. However, you don’t have long see this once-in-a-lifetime display. The Final Showing of The Life and Works of M.C. Escher will be on April 4. Seating is limited, and you will need to RSVP with the museum.
