Some of the commercial projects that have been ongoing in DeLand have finally been completed or are near completion, just in time for the holidays. We thought we would provide you with a commercial construction update, holiday edition.
1) Goodwill. The new Goodwill at is now open at its new location on N. Woodland Blvd., across from the Walmart Supercenter. This is perfect timing for the Christmas holidays, since this particular Goodwill has an employment center. Those searching for employment during the season can inquire at the location for jobs at Goodwill or other local businesses. The new facility also has a much larger square footage with more inventory for shoppers.
2) Subway. One of the talks of the town is the new Subway. The modern look is eye catching at 1204 N. Woodland Blvd, next door to the previous location. Always a busy spot for lunch, this location is larger with 55 seats as opposed to only 17 at the previous location.
3) Walmart Neighborhood Market. The grocery-only Walmart store nearing completion. It is expected to open January, 2018. Other than the structure of the building, work has been steady on the roundabout in front of the store on Woodland Blvd. A roundabout is being installed because of traffic issues and the historic oak tree in the median.
4) DaVita Labs. The new DaVita Labs corporate office near the airport is partially open. The building opened for administrative staff in August. The lab portion is expected to open near the middle of next year. DaVita is a Fortune 200 company with a major office in DeLand.
5) Marriott. The new Marriott on Woodland Blvd has hit a construction snag. Officials expected the hotel to open this fall. Construction began around April 2016. It is possible that Hurricane Irma held up the construction process, some speculate. When will post when we find out more information.
