A big appeal for those who visit DeLand is the history. There are so many stories about Henry DeLand, Jon B. Stetson, and the like. Now, visitors can take a step back in time when staying over night, thanks to the vision of the property’s new owner.

The DeLand Hotel, originally known as the Eastwood Terrace Inn was built in 1925 at 442 E. New York Ave. The property was purchased by Ross Janke in August of 2016. His vision was to bring something different and unique to DeLand, but would still compliment the city’s history. To do that, Janke retained as much of the original building as possible and has made some necessary modernizations. For example, many of the original fixtures have been retained, but the interior has been painted to match colors that were popular in the 1920’s.

In an interview with the West Volusia Beacon last month, Janke said, “We’re adding the internet and health and safety features. Everything else I want to be vintage.”

More than just the vintage ambience, Janke wants guests to have an experience like no other, “offering 1925 hospitality with complimentary everything,” he said. At check-in, for instance, guests can receive a free beer or glass of wine, and free bottled water is available throughout the stay. Planned for the near future are free continental breakfasts. Also, a full-service restaurant is in the works.

The hotel received its first guest on September 2 of this year. The hotel currently has 30 rooms to choose from. Room rates range from $95 to $165 a night. Reservations can be made by calling 386-624-6710 or emailing Info@TheDelandHotel.com. The website is www.TheDelandHotel.com.
