Convenience and safety is the name of the game at Forest Trace, a DeLand subdivision that is literally next door to Citrus Grove Elementary School. With sizable properties and more than ample square footage, this community has a lot to offer young families, or those of any age for that matter. We sat down with recent DeLand residents, the Martinez family, and asked why they enjoy living in Forest Trace.

Carlos and Patricia Martinez family moved into their home in 2016. Carlos is the worship pastor at Stetson Baptist Church. Next year, all three of their children will be enrolled at Citrus Grove Elementary, which is within safe walking distance for their children. The reasons for purchasing their home in Forest Trace are not unlike many of their neighbors. Below are some of the top buying points.

  • Pride in ownership. The entire community keeps their individual properties neat and tidy. They take pride in the homes, yards and the common areas, and it shows.
  • There is a healthy sense of community among the neighbors. Everyone feels safe. People keep an eye out for one another and their children, which is a sought after quality among families.
  • Walking Distance to Citrus Grove Elementary School. The Martinez family will have all three children attending school together next year. Convenience is nice, but they feel comfortable letting their children walk to school, thanks to the culture of safety within the community.

Other great qualities of Forest Trace include close access to the Glenwood bike trail, close proximity to Downtown DeLand and other parts of town via Spring Garden Ave., and other nearby schools such as Southwestern Middle School and DeLand High School.
