What’s better than one Aldi opening in DeLand? Two Aldis! That’s right. Another Aldi is joining the DeLand community, this time in South DeLand. Although no official announcement is on the Aldi company website, the city has confirmed the German chain will open its doors with a new location yet again in DeLand.
DeLand seems to like things in twos when it comes to their grocery chains. Within the city are two of each: Publix, Winn-Dixie (down from three just a few years ago), Save-A-Lot and Walmart (Neighborhood Market and Supercenter). In fact, the new Aldi is slated to take the place of the former south end Winn-Dixie location. After it closed in 2018, the space was renovated and set to open as an Earth Fare (an organic grocery store) this year. However, in February (before the economic downturn caused by Covid-19), the chain announced that it was closing all stores.
Now Aldi has the opportunity to open the store as almost a turnkey operation. Of course, they will have to make modifications to accommodate their layout and design, but the building is in much better shape than the location at the north end of the city that needed a full overhaul including repaving the parking lot that is shared with the other stores.
The newest Aldi will be located in the West Volusia Regional Shopping Center at the corner of South Woodland and Orange Camp Road.
