The National Retail Federation says that 69% of Americans plan to do some form of Christmas shopping between Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Small Business Saturday and Sunday. The bulk of all shopping is expected to follow the trend of purchasing online. However, local shopping has a lot to offer for the person that is hard to buy for. Downtown DeLand also providesa great experience to shop with friends and family.
We polled some locals about some of their favorite stores in Downtown DeLand that they plan to browse for Christmas gifts.
1) Pretty Little Things. This shop carries a unique blend of vintage items, home décor and fashion. Favorite gift items include, lovely frames, wall décor, wreaths, candles, table runners, and linens. With all of this variety, you are bound to splurge on yourself! 2) Wiley Owl. Kids want the latest toys at Christmas, but gifts from the Wiley Owl are always a hit with kids and kids at heart. 3) Scullery Kitchen Provisions. For those that like to cook, this store has a unique blend of kitchen tools, decorations and food. Unique gifts include mulled wine spices and golden whisks. Another favorite is the line of Dijon mustard such as the walnut, tarragon and provencal varieties. This is a must stop for the favorite cook in your life.
4) So.NY Market. Enjoy a great selection of local and international wine & beer while looking for the perfect gift through a variety of re-purposed, vintage and down right awesome furniture, gifts, clothing and more. The shop is set up as a co-op marketplace with a lot to look at and browse through. The store is located in an old original building on the main street of downtown DeLand. At So.NY, it isn’t just the great products, it’s the experience!
5) The Museum Gift Shop. Located inside the DeLand Museum of Art, the Museum Store at the main location, opposite Stetson University, offers a wide variety of books, original works of artist jewelry and pottery, fine art prints, greeting cards, postcards, stationary and children’s items. There is also a downtown satellite location that offers a wide variety of items from fine art posters, stationary and jewelry to kitchen gadgets, bar accessories, shirts, scarves and children’s art materials. Name brand items include Romero Britto, Design Ideas, Kikkerland Design, Spark, Franklin Lloyd Wright and others.
