It would be a dream come true for many West Volusia residents! A recent blurb in the West Volusia Beacon reports that Aldi has submitted an application for a building permit to the DeLand Building Department. The permit has been approved by the Building Department but is waiting for approval from the Fire Department.
The permit was for the large storefront between Office Depot and Bealls Outlet in the Gateway Village shopping center on North Woodland Boulevard.
Aldi operates more than 1,900 stores in 36 different states. Currently, West Volusia residents must drive to Sanford, New Smyrna Beach or Daytona Beach for the closest Aldi. With their motto of “Shop differentli”, Aldi defines itself as “A faster, easier and smarter way to save money on high-quality groceries and more”.
According to the Beacon a division vice president for Aldi wouldn’t confirm their movement into West Volusia county, but with work going on in the shopping strip, it appears that big things are coming to the Gateway Village shopping center.
