Volusia County residents might now get their Amazon If you haven’t heard by now, that mystery warehouse building that is set to be built in Deltona will belong to Amazon. After a non-disclosure agreement and much speculation over the past several months, the online retail giant will have a new home in Florida.

The 1.4 million-square-foot facility, 400,000 of which is mezzanine, will be built south of the intersection of North Normandy Boulevard and Graves Avenue, near Interstate 4 and west of Epic Theaters of West Volusia. This facility will be an Amazon-owned distribution center, different than the “last mile” center in Daytona which Amazon leases.

Other than getting your Prime packages a little bit quicker, the facility has a few positive outcomes for local residents in the area. The first is the creation of about 500 jobs. Local governments have given Amazon incentives of $2.5 million if they meet the hiring benchmark within 5 years.

The other great benefit for local residents is  an area for the public to pick up and drop off merchandise.  If you don’t want to wait for Amazon to come to you, you can go to them! The warehouse is also likely to offer tours to the public, much like other fulfillment centers across the country.

Construction of the project, which is expected to spur additional development in the surrounding area, is slated to finish by Nov. 30, 2020, according to the agreement between the city of Deltona and Amazon.
