Chipotle fans can rejoice! If you haven’t heard by now, DeLand is getting a Chipotle restaurant, quick-serve, fast-casual Mexican restaurant that is famous for fresh ingredients that are sourced locally.
In the past, Chipotle lovers had to travel to Daytona or Sanford for their delicious fixes. Later this summer, that won’t be the case. The DeLand location is already well under construction and is expected to be completed by August. The location is at the growing Country Club Corners shopping center at the northeast corner of U.S. 17-92 and Orange Camp Road. Chipotle’s next door neighbor is Chick-fil-A.
Aside from Chipotle, a Church’s Chicken restaurant will replace the long-closed Sonic Drive-In on North Woodland Boulevard in DeLand. Sonic fans have been saddened ever since the drive-in style restaurant closed it’s doors years ago while locals have often wondered what would take the place of the property. The southern-style fried chicken restaurant is anticipated to be a welcome site, but the existing structure has to be torn down, because the current structure is unsuited for Church’s. Demolition of the old Sonic is slated to begin anytime and construction will likely begin soon after.
Finally, the DeLand Waffle House is expected to begin construction soon, also. The Waffle House will be build on an empty lot at 1120 N. Woodland Blvd. The owners hope that it will draw a crowd from Stetson University students and stand out as an iconic estabnbilshement among other breakfast franchises such as IHOP (or IHOB), Denny’s, and Perkins along N. Woodland Blvd. Waffle House is a southern-style short order breakfast restaurant.
