The November election is only a few weeks away. The presidential election is slated to be one of the most pivotal elections in our nation’s history. It has been a hot-button topic for several months. You likely have an opinion regarding the major national races, such as the presidency and the senate. However, we want our readers to be informed regarding important local races that can affect our community, just as we did for the primary elections

One of those important local races is for Volusia County Property Appraiser, due to the effect in local property taxes. This race originally took place during the primary election, but resulted in a runoff between the top two candidates, Larry Bartlett and Alan Burton. In an effort to inform our friends to make the best possible choice at voting booth, we have included brief profiles for those running for Property Appraiser below. 

Meet the candidates: 

Larry Bartlett

Age: 61
Residence: Ormond Beach
Profession: Corporate and real estate lawyer since 1979
Political experience: First-time candidate
Top three Priorities:

  1. Maintain the high standards set by our current property appraiser, Morgan Gilreath.
  2. Keep the office a source of easy to understand information about Volusia County property.
  3. Use current and future technologies to keep the public informed and keep costs down.

Alan Burton

Age: 64
Residence: Ormond Beach
Profession: Property Appraiser
Political Experience: Republican National Convention Delegate 2016; Republican State Committeeman Volusia County; Republican Precinct Committeeman #516
Top three priorities:

  1. Achieve & exceed appraisal industry standards.
  2. Sustain the best data integrity for Volusia County, municipalities, & private sector.
  3. Nurture the most favorable customer service and expand transparency.
