It’s almost fall and football season is here, and for hometown college football fans, that means that the Stetson Hatter Football program is about to get underway for another season. Fans will gather at Spec Martin stadium as they will gather all across the across the country on Saturdays to witness their teams compete for college football supremacy on the gridiron. Football brings out passionate fans and encourages excitement like no other sport. However, there are other great competitive sports to watch our hometown student-athletes compete in.
There are several Stetson sports teams that you may not know about that have already started. Many of them are reasonably priced or even free to attend for your entire family.
There is football, and then there is futbol. The Stetson soccer teams play at the Athletic Training Center outdoor complex. Tickets for the these games are $5 per person. There is limited bleacher seating, but feel free to bring your own folding chair. Often the soccer teams will have great promotions for fans such as free pizza, Kona Ice and giveaways.
There is nothing like the sound of that little green ball pounding on the court. The tennis teams play at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center on E. University Ave. There are several courts that allow matches to take place simultaneously. It can be a lot to watch, but there is usually at least one match that is an all-out grind. Admission is free to all tennis matches. Bring a chair, because seating is limited.
Not much is more exciting than a back and forth volleyball match. There is nothing easy going about these ladies as they can spike the ball with incredible precision and force. All games are played in the Edmunds Center and tickets are $5.
If you are a fan of playing or watching golf, don’t underestimate these determined collegiate athletes. Find a favorite player and follow them throughout the course, or bring a chair and watch players play through one of the holes. All matches are played at Victoria Hills Golf Course, which is a challenging course in its own right. However, these players make it look easy as the battle other teams in the Atlantic Sun Conference. Tickets are free.
These are just a few of the sports starting this fall. Other sports, such as men’s and women’s basketball, begin later in the fall. For more information, log on to gohatters.com. Come on out and cheer on the Hatters to victory. These student-athletes will appreciate the support.
