Hurricane Irma brought a lot of chaos to our community due to the howling winds, loss of power and displaced residents who evacuated. However, in the midst of that chaos, our community came together. The most obvious place that was manifested was through local businesses and organizations.

Below are a few examples of how local businesses reached out to the community in a desperate time of need.

Trilogy Coffee Roasting Co. gave out free cups of coffee to those who were without power.

Tom’s Pizza in Downtown DeLand set up charging stations and gave away free bags of ice.

DeLand Chiropractic and Spinal Decompression gave away free chiropractic care to all utility workers, first responders, National Guard and all active military personnel.

Hair Cuttery gave a way free shampoo and blow dry services as well as discounted haircuts of only $10.

Persimmon Hollow brewery gave away free filtered water to those before the storm who brought their own containers.

Stetson Baptist Church hosted a free hot meal for the community on Wednesday after Irma passed.

As you can see, our community came together in a strong way and in the midst of one of the largest natural disasters in a long time.

What are some other ways you’ve seen our community support each other after Hurricane Irma?
