Recently, the Downtown Community Redevelopment Agency met to rank three plans to give new life to the old Volusia County Jail that sits on the block between W. New York Ave. and Georgia Ave. The project is expected to enhance the area near the Artisan Alley area, a popular area off Woodland Blvd.
The first proposal from Conrad Realty Co. is to create 10,000 square feet of retail space with an additional 46 residential units. Lofts and gallery space for local artists would also be available.
The second proposal from Deltran Operations USA is to demolish the current structure to build space for business headquarters along with an incubator site for entrepreneurs.
The third proposal from E2L Real Estate Solutions LLC is for a project larger than just the jail. This proposal includes plans for the J.W. Wright building, a parking garage, a new retail building, apartments, and an event center.
Two of the businesses that submitted proposals, Conrad Realty Co. and Deltran Operations USA, are located in DeLand, while E2L Real Estate Solutions LLC is based in Winter Park.
A decision from the Downtown Community Redevelopment Agency is expected in 2019.
