One thing that golfers would love nothing more is to introduce their friends and loved ones to the game they love. A great way to do that is through a Topgolf entertainment center. Topgolf is a glorified driving range that is geared toward golfers and non-golfers. There is hope that those of us in Volusia County can do our best “Happy Gilmore” impression and crush golf balls in Daytona Beach in the not so distant future.
The Dallas, Texas-based chain came close a year ago to leasing a site for one of its golf entertainment centers near the Interstate 95/LPGA Boulevard interchange, but the deal fell through. However, talks have reemerged in recent months according to an article in the Daytona Beach News-Journal.
Now that talks have reemerged, Topgolf is now being shopped to multiple developers and prospective tenants by Consolidated-Tomoka and Magnetar are now shopping the land to other developers and prospective tenants.
If Topgolf does come to Daytona, it will likely be near the Tanger Outlet Mall in the I-95 and LPGA area. This is the area that will soon have a Buc-ee’s gas station and is a popular development area in Daytona Beach.
So, what is Topgolf? According to the company’s website, it, “is a game that anyone can play (and win). Score points by hitting micro-chipped golf balls at giant dartboard-like targets on an outfield. The closer you get your ball to the centre or ‘bullseye’ and the further the distance, the more points earned.”
Fortunately, Volusia County residents will soon be able to visit a new Topgolf in Lake Mary in the meantime. The planned location at 1010 Greenwood Blvd. in Lake Mary is currently under construction and will employ more than 400 workers. The opening date has not yet been announced.
